We Yanks woke up to the the news that Prince William had finally popped the question to Kate Middleton last month and the happy couple are engaged! The two who have been together for eight years made an official announcement today at St. James's Palace in London.
Looking very much the princess in a royal blue dress the always stylish Kate happily answered questions about her transition from William's girlfriend to future royal. "It's quite a daunting prospect, but hopefully I'll take it in my stride," she said. "William's a great teacher, so he'll be up to help me … I really look forward to it, and look forward to spending my time with William."
William joked that while he was bad at judging just how long the two have been together he said "The timing is right now. We're both very happy, and I'm very glad that I have done it."
Prince William gave Kate his late mother's 18 karat sapphire engagement ring that Prince Charles had once given Diana. Prince William told the press of the ring “It’s very special to me. As Kate’s very special to me now, it was right to put the two together.” He went on to say that it was a way to make sure that his mother was a part of the engagement their life together. The couples upcoming marriage will be the biggest event since the royal wedding between Diana and Prince Charles. No official date has been set but the couple plan to marry in the spring or summer of 2011.
