Midwest Fashion Week is in full swing! The latest event was in the up and coming Indianapolis area called Fountain Square. Fountain Square is developing its own unique style and making a statement in the community as "the art district". IndySwank Boutique combines art and fashion which are two of my favorite things! IndySwank opened its fashionable doors in September of 2009 in the locally famed Murphy Building on Virginia Avenue. IndySwank's Owner Jennifer Von Deylin (pictured above) used her background in sales and marketing and her passion for art and all things vintage to bring IndySwank to the community of Fountain Square. "I have always been a lover of vintage clothing and art, this store gives me a chance to showcase local designers and artists."
Jennifer selects pieces from estate sales and auctions but, IndySwank is not just about the vintage while that aspect of the boutique gives it its charm local designers pieces can be found at the boutique too! Local designers such as Cheeky Couture jewelry and Catou Couture by Midwest Fashion Week Founder Berny Martin. Home design pieces including vintage furniture that serves a purpose and function in the modern setting and home. Art work from local artists hangs on the walls and the first Friday of each month you can attend the gallery tour which features work by new artists each month.
Tonights event was a trunk show featuring models dressed in a mixture of vintage clothing and local designs paired with modern accessories. The theme for the show~ each of the models wore a fashionable frock from a different decade. I spoke with model and local Herron Art student Ashten Houpt "I am very excited to be apart of this week its so great to see that Indianapolis is putting focus on the arts and its wonderful to see the community showing such support to these events."
(Can you guess the decade of clothing Ashten is representing this this green and hot pink jumper)
