Notes From Nordstrom with Carrie~

Although the weather is still pretty dreary outside, at Nordstrom spring has already sprung. We are seeing floral’s EVERYWHERE! From dresses to skirts and tops in a variety of fabrics, everyone can find their own way to wear this trend. Whether you pair it with your favorite pair of skinny jeans and flats for a casual day look or your boyfriend blazer and heels for a night out a floral piece is a great accent to any outfit. And don’t stop there! Floral accessories can be a great finishing touch to your outfit. So grab your favorite floral bag, bracelet, headband, etc and strut your stuff in this trend. All the designers are taking this trend and running with it. Betsey Johnson swimwear and accessories, Free People tops, Maggy London dresses and even Burberry has updated their classic rain boot with a subtle floral pattern in the background.

One of the biggest ways to wear this trend and many others is by pairing it with a belt. Adding a belt to any outfit can totally transform your outfit into a new and fun look. Add a chic waistline by belting your favorite dress or skirt. We’re seeing belts in so many different styles and colors. One of the biggest trends in belts for spring is the braided belt. It’s so versatile with pieces that you already own (and if you’re anything like me the many NEW spring pieces you’ll end up purchasing!) Remember when you used to actually wear your belt through the belt loops on your jeans. Well that trend is back and updated with this super cute braided belt! Grab your favorite skinnies or boyfriend jeans and try out this belt for a great spring look.

We saw the boyfriend trend really emerge last spring, and I’m happy to tell you it’s going to be around for another season. (Thank goodness since I bought WAY too many pairs of boyfriend jeans last year.) Boyfriend tees and blazers are also great pieces to add to any wardrobe no matter what your style is. Personally I don’t know what I ever did without a boyfriend blazer. It dresses up any outfit even if I’m just wearing jeans and a boyfriend tee.

Another trend that’s really starting to pop up is stripes. It’s time to replace all those great plaid tops that have been a staple for fall and winter with a new striped one for spring. Again like florals, a striped top is the perfect basic to mix and match with so many different items. If you’re a trend setter grab a bright mixed top in hot pink or electric yellow, like our Splendid rugby stripe loose tee If you’re looking for a more subtle way to wear stripes black, white, red, and navy are going to be key for you.

Several color trends aren't changing, but we are seeing some new color trends this season. Purples and pinks are always pretty popular for spring and that isn't going to change. We saw a lot of bright colors last year and many of those will be sticking around, but with patterns incorporated. We're seeing a lot of classic navy, white and red pop up with the stripes trend. Blush and nude tones are going to be very popular for spring. From tops, to shoes, and even your nail and lip the nude tone is one of the top color trends for spring.

And last by certainly not least I have to recognize my favorite trend of all: fashion that is helping out those in need. I’m so thankful to live in a place where I can express myself through fashion and have the means to do so. With the devastation in Haiti, Nordstrom quickly put together a fashion forward t-shirt dedicated to helping rebuild the city and people of Haiti, where more than 50% of the proceeds went directly to a relief fund. I just bought my first pair of TOM’s shoes. They’re perfect for spring and so cute and comfy I couldn’t resist. To sweeten the deal even more, for those of you who don’t know, for every pair of Toms shoes purchased, a pair of shoes is given to a child in need. Now who can resist buying something you love AND knowing you’re helping someone at the same time!
So these are the trends I’m currently seeing at Nordstrom. I’ve been pretty excited for spring for quite a few months with all of these florals emerging in the dead of winter. Finally, the weather is starting to match my mood and I can dig out my boyfriend jeans and sandals. Hope you guys are just as excited as I am for all the great spring trends ahead!
