Red Carpet Fashion Risks

Last night we saw a lot of dresses that were high fashion and dramatic, but did it work for the red carpet?

Charlize Theron ~  The blonde beauty turned heads in a Dior Haute Couture created especially for her by John Galliano. This amethyst and lilac bustier gown with rose and draped details is absolutely stunning - does this work for the Red Carpet?  I say YES!

Carey Mulligan ~ Prada
The Oscar nominee has become quite the fashionista on the red carpet this season, the bustier design is embellished with Swarovski crystal flowers as well as tiny forks, knives, scissors and other charms. Did this work look for the Red Carpet?  I say NO to the dress its too whimsial and for the most famous red carpet in the world this is not the proper attire.

Sarah Jessica Parker ~ Chanel
A look that Carrie Bradshaw would be proud of , but does it work for the Red Carpet? The fashionista pushes the red carpet envelope in her pale yellow Chanel Haute Couture gown with silver embroidery at the neckline and in the back, she polishes the look with a dramatic retro bun. I say YES!

Rachel McAdams ~Elie Saab
The Oscar presenter graced the red carpet in this colorful Elie Saab strapless gown. The gown made of panels of organza features a feminine sweetheart neckline and handpleated bodice with swirling pastel colors in a print pattern. Does the gown work on the Red Carpet?  I say NO I don't think prints in general work on the red carpet, its a beautiful gown but its not high fashion enough.

Maggie Gyllenhaal ~Dries van Noten
The Crazy Heart star wore this column print Dries van Noten gown, but does it work for the Red Carpet? I say NO its simple and boring Maggie is so beautiful but this dress makes no statement and I feel she is underdressed.
